Term 5 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning in Chestnut Class for term 5, week 4

Term 5 week 4

Spelling sessions this week will focus on revising the use of apostrophes for possession – both plural and singular.  In grammar sessions we be working on using pronouns and conjunctions in paragraphs.  This will tie in with the work we will do in our main English lessons as we begin to write our hero myths.

In whole class guided reading we are continuing with our text ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’.

After having looked at language and narrative features in Beowulf, we will begin writing our own hero myths this week!  Using the planning we did last week, we hope to complete the first 3 sections establishing the setting and key characters.

In maths, we will continue to focus on equivalent fractions.  Last week this proved to be a challenging topic!  We will continue to use pictorial representations and some interactive technology to embed this concept before moving on to fractions over 1.  This week’s maths homework will also help consolidate this class learning.

Having explored different images of the Hindu creation story, we will be examining accounts from sacred scriptures.  These vary in their explanation of creation and we will be thinking about what message Hindus can take from different versions.

In science we will move on to think about the rest of the digestive system.  Having learned about the function of teeth and saliva, we will be learning about the internal elements of the digestive system.

After really enjoying the animation sessions in computing, we will this week be moving on to coding, using the Logo programme on Purple Mash.

In PE we will again be working on our sprinting, relay and javelin techniques as we prepare for Sports Day this year!
