Term 3, week 3

In English this week, we will continue our unit based on the Pebble in My Pocket by Meredith Hooper. We will create and annotate some art based on the story and investigate the timeline of the story.

In Whole Class reading this week we will be looking at a non-fiction text about Grace Darling, and her brave sea rescue. We will investigate the vocabulary and answer questions about the text, both as a class and individually.

In Maths this week we will begin by looking at inverse operations, before moving on to a new unit involving multiplication and division. Times tables will be an ongoing feature, with the children completing a times table challenge each week.

Mrs Banner will be teaching our RE on Friday, and will be continuing the Sikhism unit. Mrs Banner will also do a spelling test, computing and elements of the maths curriculum.

In the wider curriculum this week, we will continue to look at the United Kingdom, whilst in science, we will be following up on the lesson about fossils.

PE will be on Monday as usual, with swimming on Tuesday. The children are making really great progress at the pool, and it is lovely to see so many of them moving up a group. The children will, as normal, need full PE kit, swimming costume/trunks, a towel, swimming cap - this is required by the swimming pool, and goggles (although these are optional). There will also be occasions when we do additional PE sessions, so please can the children have their PE kit in school all week. Please remind the children to bring all their kit, including a towel!

Homework is issued on Tuesdays and due back the following Monday. Generally, your child will complete the homework which has been uploaded to the class website page. However, if your child is given a different set of homework (which will be in their Home Learning books), there will be no need for them to complete the uploaded sheets/online work too (although they are obviously welcome to do this as well). If you have any questions about this, please do email on the maple email address below.

Reading Records will continue to be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We would still ask however, that children bring their reading books and Reading Records in to school each day and that they aim to read daily, ideally with an adult – details of this can then be recorded in the Reading Record. Homework will be sent home on Tuesday, and is due back on the following Monday.

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
