Term 6, week 4

This week in English, we will be continuing our diary writing unit, looking at a variety of different diary styles, including our focus book, ‘The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish’ by Neil Gaiman. The focus this week is on the features of a diary and exploring different points of view.

In Maths, we are aiming to finish the second fractions unit, looking this week, at problem-solving.

In topic, we will investigate Cleopatra, again using both primary and secondary evidence.

We will continue with whole class reading, using the BFG story to further investigate the vocabulary, and to answer questions about comprehension and composition.

Mrs Johnson will be covering further aspects of Sikhism and worship, considering what happens at Vaisakhi and why Sikhs’ celebrate it.

Mrs Hawker will be continuing with the ‘investigating flowering plants’ unit in science, this week with a visit from Quinton Wood, a local beekeeper, who will talk to the children and show them the beekeeping equipment. She will be continuing the singing, which I know the children are enjoying.

PE will be on Thursday as usual, with myself and Mr Luckhurst. I know many children come into school with sun cream already applied, but this is especially important on a Thursday, together with hats and water bottles, especially if the weather is hot. Swimming is on Friday as usual. Please do email if you have any questions about this and remember to send your children in with everything they need for these sessions. If in doubt please do ask.

Reading Records will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We would continue to ask however, that children bring their books and Reading Records in to school each day and that they aim to read daily, ideally with an adult – details of this can then be recorded in the Reading Record.

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
