This week in English, we will be starting a new unit, looking at recounts in the form of diaries. We will be basing the unit on the book ‘The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish’ by Neil Gaiman. There will be a number of additional books used to help us to understand how to write diary entries and this should be a really fun unit to end the academic year!

In Maths, we are starting the second fractions unit, looking this week, at adding and subtracting fractions.

In addition, we will be investigating the process of mummification in our Ancient Egyptian topic, attempting to recreate the procedure in a fun, but possibly messy way!

We will continue with whole class reading, using the BFG story to further investigate the vocabulary, and to answer questions about comprehension and composition.

Mrs Johnson will continue looking at Sikhism and worship, making clear links between the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib and seva.

 

Mrs Hawker will also be continuing with the ‘investigating flowering plants’ unit in science, this week recapping the parts of the flower and investigating the process of pollination.

During the Thursday PE lesson, we hope to see as many of you as possible for our class sports event. A parentmail has been sent out reminding the children to arrive in PE kit and to bring a water bottle and hat. Sun cream should also be applied before school if the weather is hot, fingers crossed for a lovely session. Swimming on Friday as usual. Please do email if you have any questions about this and remember to send your children in with everything they need for these sessions. If in doubt please do ask.

Reading Records will continue to be changed generally on a Monday and Thursday. We would continue to ask however, that children bring their books and Reading Records in to school each day and that they aim to read daily, ideally with an adult – details of this can then be recorded in the Reading Record. A number of children have said they have lost their reading record, so if this is the case, please do email on the class email, and will arrange for a new record to be issued.
