Term 2, week 5

A quick word about Homework! As there have been some issues with the current format, we are moving over to the TwinklGo resource. Hopefully the instructions are clear, but please do shout if you need any help. There are still a number of children not completing homework regularly however, which means they are missing valuable opportunities to practice skills. Obviously, there are times when completing homework is tricky, which is completely understandable. Please do not worry in those instances, but do encourage your children to try their best to complete the work.

This week in English, we will be planning and beginning to write our own stories, based on the Stone Age Boy. Guided reading will continue with a song this week – The Bare Necessities from the Jungle Book!

In Maths this week we will continue to focus on adding and subtraction 1s and 10s, again, we will again need to cross 10s and 100s. Times tables will continue through the week, with opportunities for the children to practise their tables and complete a times table challenge.

As we will be visiting the Church for our class mass, there will be no topic work this week. In IT, we will be further developing our animations.

Mrs Johnson will continue the Incarnation unit in RE this week, looking at the links between our Bible texts and the idea of God in Christianity.

Mrs Tompsett will be covering science again on Friday, this week looking at comparing and grouping together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties. The children will complete the weekly spelling test on Friday too (words can be found in the home learning section) and have their weekly French session.

Maple class have PE on Mondays and Thursdays, and both sessions will be with myself and Mr Luckhurst.

Reading Records will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We are still not seeing all records in school at the moment, so this is a gentle reminder that the children should bring their reading records in at least once a week! Children should bring their books and Reading Records in to school and aim to read daily, ideally with an adult – details of this can then be recorded in the Reading Record. Pleased do contact me if you feel your child’s book is either too easy or too difficult, or if your child’s book has not been changed. There are times when a book will be sent home more than once, either because a child is reading chapter books, or if it is felt that the book needs to be read more than once to enhance familiarity.

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
