Week 6, Term 1 2022 to 2023

This week in English, we will again be continuing with the work based on the book ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ by Michelle Robinson, continuing to prepare our group drama relating to the book. These mini productions will then be shared with the class before beginning to plan our own instructions.

Guided reading this week will continue with the extract from E B White’s book, Stuart Little. The children will share the story to build familiarity, reading in pairs and then answering questions to discuss the narrative and language features of the text.

In Maths this week we will continue with the place value unit, investigating and estimating numbers to 1,000. Times tables will continue through the week, with opportunities for the children to practice their tables before completing a times table challenge. We are doing well with our tables, but any further practice at home would be great!

In our topic work, we will investigate Skara Brae, using our note-taking skills to highlight interesting facts about what life was like for Neolithic farmers during the Stone Age.

In IT, we will consider how we connect with the internet, looking at how digital devices connect to share information.

Mrs Johnson will continue with the People of God unit in RE this week.

Mrs Tompsett will continue with the ‘animals including humans’ unit on Friday, looking at skeletons and muscles. The children will complete the weekly spelling test (words can be found in the home learning section) and have their weekly French session.

Maple class have PE on Mondays and Thursdays, and both sessions will be with myself and Mr Luckhurst.

Reading Records will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We would ask however, that children bring their books and Reading Records in to school each day and that they aim to read daily, ideally with an adult – details of this can then be recorded in the Reading Record. Pleased do contact me if you feel your child’s book is either too easy or too difficult, or if your child’s book has not been changed. There are times when a book will be sent home more than once, either because a child is reading chapter books, or if it is felt that the book needs to be read more than once to enhance familiarity.

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
