Term 6, week 4

I am so proud of all the children – they completed all the assessments last week with such a positive attitude and their behaviour during the week was fantastic! At one point there were some children catching up with their assessments, while others completed a DT activity in near silence! Back to normal this week!

In maths this week, we will be looking at telling the time, recapping some elements from last year, before moving on to telling the time to 1 minute. Some children will have already mastered this and will be challenged to work out some duration problems!

In English, we will continue with diary writing, practising writing in the first person and including adverbs for time, place and manner, and positioning for impact.

In topic work this week, we will be continuing our science theme for this term - flowering plants, looking specifically at seeds and fruit.

As part of the Ancient Egyptian topic work, we will continue our Tutankhamun masks, an activity which includes creating a structure, using paper mâché and paint to complete. Previous year three classes have loved this activity and some of the children have already had a sneaky peak!

In RE this week, Mrs Johnson will continue the Sikhism unit, taking a further look at how Sikh people worship and celebrate. Mrs Johnson also makes time for the children to practice their handwriting and I can confirm that one child has now achieved the required standard for a pen licence! Hope to recommend a few more before the end of year 3.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, continuing to prepare their athletic skills for sports day! Please do remember to send them in with a hat and water bottle, and apply sun cream before school if possible.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will be looking at simulations in ICT, do the spellings assessment and further whole class reading.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday, to be returned the following Monday as usual. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We are having an additional push on reading between now and the end of the academic year, so if you have any questions or concerns about this pleased do let me know.

In addition, times tables and handwriting practice would be very beneficial moving forward. There are lots of games online which can make learning their tables fun and any cursive handwriting practice will help.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
