Term 6, week 3

This week will look a little different as we will be completing our end of year assessments in maths, reading, writing and spelling. The assessments are designed to identify where the children are in their learning and to inform planning in year 4. As a result, the usual timetable will be tweaked to include some fun activities too!

In topic work this week, we will be continuing our science theme for this term - flowering plants, and will take the opportunity to spend some time in the new garden, observing, drawing and painting some of the plants we will find there. We will also investigate the new outdoor library and spend some of our quiet reading time outside too.

As part of the Ancient Egyptian topic work, we are starting our Tutankhamun masks, an activity which includes creating a structure, using paper mâché and paint to complete. Previous year three classes have loved this activity and some of the children have already had a sneaky peak!

In RE this week, Mrs Johnson will continue the Sikhism unit, taking a further look at how Sikh people worship and celebrate. Mrs Johnson also makes time for the children to practice their handwriting and it would be great if some of the children gained their pen licence before the end of year 3, so additional practice at home would be great.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, continuing to prepare their athletic skills for sports day! Please do remember to send them in with a hat and water bottle, and apply sun cream before school if possible.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will be looking at simulations in ICT, do the spellings assessment and further whole class reading.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday, to be returned the following Monday as usual. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We are having an additional push on reading between now and the end of the academic year, so if you have any questions or concerns about this pleased do let me know.

In addition, times tables and handwriting practice would be very beneficial moving forward. There are lots of games online which can make learning their tables fun and any cursive handwriting practice will help.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
