Term 6, week 2

What a lovely time we had at the film screening and garden party! I hope those of you who were able to join us, enjoyed it and the sun shining was an added bonus!

Another reminder! We have been creating our own Egyptian tombs, with the children making some amazing clay artefacts and using oil pastels to decorate the walls. However, we still need some more cat food boxes! Ideally the ones which hold the 12 pouches of cat food. We would be grateful for any that can be sent in.

In maths this week, we will be continuing with fractions, looking at both adding and subtracting fractions. Our times table challenge is continuing in term 6, so any additional practice at home would be very useful.

In English last week, most of the children were able to share their stories with the Acorn children, which was enjoyed by all. This week, we will be starting our new unit, which will combine our topic work with diary writing skills.

For whole class reading this week, we will continue to focus on extract from some of the Roald Dahl stories.

In topic work this week, we will be continuing our science theme for this term - flowering plants, and will take a further look at the structure of flowering plants.

In RE this week, Mrs Johnson will continue the Sikhism unit, looking at how Sikh people worship and celebrate. Mrs Johnson also makes time for the children to practice their handwriting and it would be great if some of the children gained their pen licence before the end of year 3, so additional practice at home would be great.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, continuing to prepare their athletic skills for sports day!

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will be looking at branching databases in ICT, do the spellings tests and further whole class reading. The children will be making a start on their Egyptian masks, thinking about construction and moving on with their French sessions.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday, to be returned the following Monday as usual. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We are having an additional push on reading between now and the end of the academic year, so if you have any questions or concerns about this pleased do let me know.

In addition, times tables and handwriting practice would be very beneficial moving forward. There are lots of games online which can make learning their tables fun and any cursive handwriting practice will help.

The children really have become much more independent with their homework and reading records, and most now remember to put the relevant books in the basket in class. If you haven’t seen their homework or reading records for a while, please do ask them and let me know if there is an issue. Can I please remind you to encourage the children to complete the online element of the homework too, letting me know if there is a problem with this.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
