Week 6, Term 5

A request! We have been creating our own Egyptian tombs, with the children making some amazing clay artefacts and using oil pastels to decorate the walls. However, we still need some more cat food boxes! Ideally the ones which hold the 12 pouches of cat food. We would be grateful for any that can be sent in.

Friday is dress up week, and we look forward to seeing the children in their finery! Please do remember though, that it is also PE in the afternoon, so please do think about the outfits and how easily the children can change.

In maths this week, we will be continuing with fractions, looking at equivalent fractions in more detail. Our times table challenge is going well still, with the children really enjoying their own personal challenge.

In English this week, we will be continuing to write our own stories, based ono the King of the Sky. Whole class reading will again feature extracts from some of the books by Roald Dahl.

In topic work this week, we will be considering communication during the Ancient Egyptian times, creating our names and messages in hieroglyphics.

In RE this week, Mrs Johnson will continue to link ideas about the Kingdom of God explored in the Bible and what people believe about following God in the world today. Mrs Johnson also makes time for the children to practice their handwriting, and it would be great if some of the children gained their pen licence before the end of year 3.

In music, we will be undertaking the final session on the body percussion skills we have been learning, playing some musical games and becoming more and more tuneful!

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, preparing athletic skills for our sports day!

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will be looking at simulations in ICT, do the spellings tests and further whole class reading. The children will be making a start on their Egyptian masks, thinking about construction and moving on with their French sessions.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday, to be returned the following Monday as usual. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We are having a real push on reading between now and the end of the academic year, so if you have any questions or concerns about this pleased do let me know.

In addition, times tables practice would be very beneficial moving forward. There are lots of games online which can make learning their tables fun.

The children are becoming much more independent with their homework and reading records, but please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class. If you haven’t seen their homework or reading records for a while, please do ask them and let me know if there is an issue. Can I please remind you to encourage the children to complete the online element of the homework too, letting me know if there is a problem with this.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
