Term 5, week 4

Over halfway through this term now, I can’t believe where the time goes!

In maths this week, we will be continuing with fractions, looking further at fractions of a set of objects, and then considering equivalent fractions. Our times table focus is continuing to go really well, with the children all making great progress.

In English this week, we will be building on our knowledge of the use of paragraphs, before starting to plan our own stories relating to the King of the Sky. Whole class reading will again feature extracts from some of the books by Roald Dahl.

In topic work this week, we will be further increasing our knowledge of ‘Ancient Egyptians’, looking at additional stories surrounding Tutankhamun and some Egyptian Gods.

In RE this week, Mrs Johnson will help the children to link ideas about the Kingdom of God explored in the Bible and what people believe about following God in the world today. Mrs Johnson also makes time for the children to practice their handwriting, and it would be great if some children gained their pen licence before the end of year 3.

In music, we will continue to build on the body percussion skills we have been learning, playing some musical games and becoming more and more tuneful!

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, preparing athletic skills for our sports day!

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will continue to focus on emails in ICT, do the spellings tests and further whole class reading. The children will be using clay to add to their artefacts for their Egyptian tombs and the fifth unit, introducing them to speaking French

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday, to be returned the following Monday as usual. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We are having a real push on reading between now and the end of the academic year, so if you have any questions or concerns about this pleased do let me know.

In addition, times tables practice would be very beneficial moving forward. There are lots of games online which can make learning their tables fun.

The children are becoming much more independent with their homework and reading records, but please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class. If you haven’t seen their homework or reading records for a while, please do ask them and let me know if there is an issue. Can I please remind you to encourage the children to complete the online element of the homework too, letting me know if there is a problem with this.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
