Week 5, term 4

Thank you so much for all the lovely buttons we have received already. As per last week’s blog - Request! In the next couple of weeks, we are hoping to produce some button art. Therefore, if anyone has any buttons to donate (especially pale, spring colours), that would be very much appreciated.

In maths this week, we are moving on to tally charts and bar charts/tables, having spent more time last week on division and scaling. We are also having an additional focus on times tables over the next few weeks and into next term.

In English this week, we will be looking at expanded noun phrases, continuing on our theme of persuasive writing. We will build expanded noun phrases and use these in sentences to improve our descriptive writing.

Whole class reading will again include popular songs, sharing these as a whole class and discussing the content and lyrics – it is always lovely to hear the children’s thoughts during our reading sessions, together with their singing!

In our topic work this week, we will continue to focus on science, looking at forces and magnets. This will build on some work we started in January and should be fun!

In RE this week, the children will continue with the Salvation Unit, further building on identifying why Christians call the day Jesus died ‘Good Friday’.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will continue the touch-typing unit in ICT, do the spellings tests and whole class non-fiction reading, whilst continuing with the artwork based on 1950s posters. These are looking fantastic.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday as usual, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult, and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on.

Any additional times tables practice would be very beneficial moving forward. There are lots of games online which can make learning their tables fun.

The children are becoming much more independent with their homework and reading records, but please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class. If you haven’t seen their homework or reading records for a while, please do ask them and let me know if there is an issue.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
