Term 4, week 1

Term 4 already!

In maths this week, we will be developing our fluency, using the 8 times table to both multiply and divide. In addition, we will consider the multiplication facts we already know, to work out new facts.

In English this week, we are continuing to build skills in order to write a persuasive text, so we will be further investigating the language used in persuasive texts, which we will combine with our topic work regarding the United Kingdom.

If possible, please ask your children to collect two or three printed adverts (from magazines, newspapers or fliers through the door), for use in our persuasive writing activities over the next few weeks. This is also part of this week’s homework, but the adverts can be brought in at any time this week.

Whole class reading will be based on the Mousehole Cat by Antonia Barber, looking at the story as a whole, and specific elements to build on our inference skills.

In RE this week, the children will begin the Salvation Unit, starting to identify why Christians call the day Jesus died ‘Good Friday’.

I am hoping that the children will get the chance to start some art work this week, based on the railways of the UK, and used in advertisements. They will also be continuing ICT with Mrs Tompsett.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday as usual, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult, and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class.

As usual, I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
