Term 2, week 6

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

This week we will be rehearsing for the carol concert, visiting the church to practice our singing.

In maths this week, we will continue to look at addition and subtraction, using the column method to calculate 3-digit problems which cross both 1s and 10s. We will also consider some word problems, maybe with a Christmas theme!

This week we are aiming to write our own Stone Age stories. We will be watching a short extract from an interview with Malorie Blackman (author of Noughts and Crosses), to hear how she improves her own writing.

Continuing with Stig of the Dump, by Clive King, our whole class reading this week will focus on finishing chapter two and moving onto chapter three.

In our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, we will continue looking at how society changed in the Iron Age and imagining what life was like living in an Iron Age hill fort.

In RE, Mrs Johnson and the class will make links between some Bible texts and the idea of God in Christianity, expressing some ideas of their own about what the God of Christianity is like.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will continue looking at online safety. The children will also be doing a times table challenge and their weekly spelling test. The children will also extend their RE, looking specifically at the Christmas story.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday as usual, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult, and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
