Term 2, week 5

Well done to the whole class on a very enjoyable debate on Thursday. Both teams participated fully, adding their own opinions and really making a case for their side!

We have a special visitor coming to see us on Monday afternoon this week! Mrs Duncombe will be sharing one of her favourite stories with the class and creating a special book.

In maths this week, we will continue to look at addition and subtraction, spending time further recapping some of the work covered last year. We will work on different methods used when adding and subtracting 3-digit and 2-digit numbers – initially not crossing 10 and increasing our fluency and problem-solving skills.

We have been working on building our vocabulary skills in English, using the Stone Age Boy as our focus. This week we will be writing our own stories, based on the book, starting with a plan and then adding specific sections each day.

Continuing with Stig of the Dump in our whole class reading this week, we will be looking at chapter two, using the text to focus on comprehension skills and retrieval of information.

In our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, we will consider how society changed in the Iron Age and imagining what life was like living in an Iron Age hill fort.

In science this week we need to finish the plan for our science investigation, using our recently learnt vocabulary to explain how we can ensure that we can collect and analysis the results.

In RE, Mrs Johnson and the class will investigate how Christians show their beliefs about God the Trinity in worship (in baptism and prayer, for example) and in the way they live.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will be focusing on spreadsheets in ICT. The children will also be doing a times table challenge and their weekly spelling test. To compliment the work on Stone Age, they will be designing Stone Age jewellery in DT, using a variety of materials.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday as usual, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult, and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
