Term 2, week 4

In maths this week, we will continue to look at addition and subtraction, further recapping some of the work covered last year. We will work on adding and subtracting 3-digit and 2-digit numbers – crossing 10, and increasing our fluency and problem-solving skills.

This week we are aiming to hold a class debate in relation to the Stone Age Boy book by Satoshi Kitamura. The children will initially consider debating skills, developing questioning and opinions to prepare for the debate later in the week. We are hoping to invite Mr Mackinnon to join us too, so hopefully it will be both constructive and fun!

We are moving on to a different book for our whole class reading this week, looking at Stig of the Dump by Clive King. We will use this text to focus on comprehension skills and retrieval of information.

In our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, we will continue to investigate artefacts, often found in the Bronze Age burial sites, and further consider what these tell us about the way of life during that time.

In science this week we need to plan our science investigation, using our recently learnt vocabulary to explain how we can ensure that we conduct a fair test.

In RE, Mrs Johnson and the class will continue learning about what texts about baptism and Trinity might mean. This will focus on what the texts mean to Christians today.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will continue looking at online safety. The children will also be doing a times table challenge and their weekly spelling test. The children will be continuing to sew their nativity stockings – once finished, these will become our class advent calendar!

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday as usual, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
