Term 2, week 3

Another quick reminder that it is not too late to book a slot to chat about your child’s progress so far this year. If you missed the parent consultations, please do email, and we can arrange a convenient time.

What a lovely time we had at the Trinity on Friday! I have to say that the children behaved beautifully, not only on the walk there and back, but also throughout the time we were at the theatre. I very much enjoyed the film (My Neighbour Totoro) and I hope the children all did too. No doubt we will spend some time discussing it this week!

In maths this week, we will continue to look addition and subtraction, further recapping some of the work covered last year. We will revisit adding and subtracting 3-digit and 1-digit numbers – crossing 10, and then move on to both adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers from 3-digit numbers.

Continuing with our study of the Stone Age Boy book by Satoshi Kitamura, the children will further investigate the use of adverbials of time and place, prepare their short drama performance and then, time permitting, begin to prepare for a class debate.

We will continue to use the same book for our guided reading sessions, focusing on comprehension skills and retrieval of information.

In our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, we will investigate artefacts, often found in the Bronze Age burial sites, and consider what these tell us about the way of life during that time.

Having considered the importance of soil, how it is made and the different types of soil, we will be discussing soil permeability, why this is important and how we can find out more about this in relation to different soils.

In RE, Mrs Johnson and the class will be learning about what texts about baptism and Trinity might mean. This will focus on the difficult concept of the trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will begin continue looking at online safety. The children will also be doing a times table challenge and their weekly spelling test. The children will be continuing to sew their nativity stockings – these are already looking great!

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday as usual, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. We ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult, and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
