Term 2, week 1
It was so lovely to meet many of you at the parent consultation meetings during the last week of term. Thank you for coming in to chat about your child’s progress. I look forward to seeing more parents and carers this week and if you haven’t yet managed to book a slot, please do email, and we can arrange a suitable time.
In maths this week, we will be looking at how the five times table can help us to add and subtract in 50s. We then be moving on to general addition and subtraction skills.
This week we will be completing our instruction writing skills, revisiting some of the new ideas we learnt last term to improve our original drafts. We will also consider how best to present these, using some of the amazing artwork we completed last term too.
Our new guided reading book is the Stone Aged Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. We will use this text to follow a series of comprehension activities and will also be focusing on this story in English from next week.
We will continue with our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, looking further at Stone Age homes and other aspects of life during that time.
In science, we will continue with our rock study, comparing different rocks and thinking about how we could identify rocks effectively.
In RE, Mrs Johnson and the class will be beginning a new unit, Incarnation. The children will discuss the difference between a ‘Gospel’, which tells the story of the life and teaching of Jesus, and a letter.
On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will begin looking at online safety. The children will also be doing a times table challenge and their weekly spelling test.
Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.
Homework will be sent out on Tuesday this week, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. As usual, we ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class.
I have continued to been impressed with the number of children who have completed elements of the wider curriculum, voluntary home learning ideas, and it is, as always, lovely to get photos of the children and their amazing creations, many thanks for emailing these.
