Term 6 Week 3

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 19th June 2023.

In our main phonics lessons we will be learning about words where the ‘are’ and ‘ear’ trigraphs make the ‘air’ sounds, such as share and pear. We will also be reading the words ‘autumn’ and ‘gone’ and writing the words ‘January’ and ‘February’.

In our main Maths lessons we will be comparing numbers up to 100, ordering numbers and doing some work on unitising. As part of our fluency work we will be comparing groups and recall number bonds for numbers up to 10.

In RE we will be learning about the core beliefs of Buddhism and will listen to the story of the Siddhartha and the Swan. We will then complete some activities linked to this.

As part of our Time and Place work, we will be talking about the continent of Africa and discussing some of its human and physical features.

On Tuesday, Year 1 will be visiting Scotney Castle and look at the flowers that we can see in the grounds as part of our Science investigation. Children need to bring a packed lunch with them (unless parents have already ordered a school packed lunch for them). Children should wear school uniform but can wear trainers on that day as we will be walking around the site quite a lot.

On Thursday afternoon, Year 1 will be taking part in 3 activities as part of the Young Readers Programme. This will include a storytelling session with Vanessa Woolf (an author), an interactive ‘Big Blue’ ocean clean-up activity and a look at our book of the week, Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.
