Term 6 Week 2

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 12th June 2023.

This week, the children in Willow Class are completing a Phonics assessment. The children will be working individually with Mrs Duncombe to read some nonsense and real words. In our main phonics lessons we will be learning about the ‘er and ‘ing’ suffixes. We will also be reading the words ‘bought’ and ‘favourite’ and writing the words ‘more’ and ‘before’.

This week we will be completing reading, writing and maths assessments to check the progress the children are making.

In our main Maths lessons we will also be using a number line up to 100 and comparing numbers with the same tens.

In RE we will be learning about the Sikh story of Duni Chand and The Solver Needle. We will then complete some activities related to the story. As part of our Time and Place work, we will be talking about Antarctica and South America and discussing some of their human and physical features. As part of our Art work, we will be starting to create clay flowers and continuing to look at Andy Goldworthy’s artwork and sculptures.

It is Sports Day for Year 1 on Wednesday at 10:30am on the school field, which parents are welcome to come and watch. Please make sure your child has a school PE kit in school on that day. The class will also have PE on Thursday morning as usual.

If you have any questions or need help with anything please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
