Term 5 Week 1

Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed the Easter break and are ready for the new term. Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 17th April 2023.

In our Phonics lessons we will be learning about words containing the ‘ea’ digraph where it makes an ‘e’ sound such as ‘bread’ and ‘head’. We will also be reading the words ‘more’ and ‘before’ and writing the words ‘any’ and ‘eye’. We will also be revisiting some phonemes that we have already learnt.

In English, we will be using the story ‘The Great Explorer’ by Chris Judge as the basis for our work for the next two weeks. This week we will be writing our own packing list and starting to plan a diary entry for an explorer.

In Maths, we will be practising counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s and revisiting number bonds for 5, 7 and 9.

We are starting a new topic in RE and over the next two terms we will be listening to stories from different faiths and learning about different places of worship. This week we will be learning about Judaism and some of its traditions.

In Computing, the children will be comparing typing on a computer to writing on a piece of paper. They will be making changes to text on a computer, explaining the differences between typing and writing and saying why they prefer typing or writing.

As part of our Science work we will be talking about what we know about plants and will be thinking about what things a seed needs to help it grow.

Willow class will still have PE on Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, so please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school on these days. This term we will be developing our athletic skills in preparation for sports day next term.

If you have any questions or need help with anything please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
