Term 3 Week 2

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 9th January 2023

This term Willow class will still have PE on Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. Please make sure your child has their full PE kit in school on those days.  We will be finishing off our fitness assessment this week and playing some team games.

In our Phonics lessons we will be learning about different long vowel sounds such as ‘a’ in apricot, ‘i’ in kind, ‘o’ in gold and ‘u’ in human. We will also be reading the words ’who’ and ‘why’ and writing the words ‘want’ and ‘their’.

In English we will be talking about the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. We will then start looking at the features of non-chronological reports in preparation for writing our own reports on every day heroes.

In Maths we will be doing some work on place value for numbers up to 20. We will be practising counting back from 20, investigating ways to represent the numbers 14 to 20 and matching number words to numbers.

In our Science lesson we will be learning about winter and thinking about seasonal changes. In Art we will be looking at Miranda Lloyd’s wave picture and will use poster paints to create our own wave pictures. In our Time and Place lesson we will start to learn about Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing.

We are starting our new topic in RE and our key question of the term: What is the Good News that Jesus brings for Christians? This week we are learning about the story of Matthew the Tax Collector and how Jesus is a friend to the friendless.

We will be setting some home learning later in the week which will be sent home as a paper copy and also posted on the class blog.
