Maths

This week we have started to learn about subtraction. We would like you to practise your subtraction skills practically and see if you can record some subtraction number sentences.

For example:

Count out 15 pieces of dried pasta. Then roll a dice and take away that number of items. See how many pieces of pasta you have left. Now try writing a number sentence to show what you did.

or

Choose 2 cards at a time from a pack of cards. Start with the biggest number and use spoons, buttons or coins to represent that number. Now take the other number of items away and see how many are left. Now try writing a number sentence to show what you did.

See how many different number sentences you can write. We would love to see photos of what you do.

Spelling

This week we would like you to practise spelling words with the “ie” digraph and the “i-e” split digraph in them. We have learnt that these digraphs can both make the “I” sound in words. Our spellings this week are:

• pie
• tie
• lie
• like
• kite
• five

Now try writing some sentences including some of our spellings.
