Wednesday 3rd February

Daily plan for Wednesday 3rd February 2021

3.2.21      *REMEMBER YOUR CHALLENGE AND TO DIP INTO YOUR ‘MY FAMOUS VICTORIAN’ PROJECT.  Please remember to send me any work that you do not have answer sheets for.  I would particularly like to see RE, Science predictions and evaluations and any independent writing that you have done.  Thank you.

MORNING

1.Handwriting/Spelling

Copy out each of your spellings 5 times and then on a different piece of paper write each one out one by one covering them up and then check that you have written them correctly.  If you have spelt a word incorrectly do the same thing again until you have written it correctly. Write a word as a pyramid if you are having trouble learning how to spell it.  considerable   considerably   comfortable   comfortably   possible   possibly   terrible   terribly   incredible   incredibly

2. Maths

Today we are learning to find the perimeter of shapes on a grid and to find the perimeter of rectangles.  Please watch 2 White Rose Learning Videos working through the questions. The link for the perimeter of shapes on a grid is vimeo.com/477525533 and the link for the perimeter of rectangles is vimeo.com/477527057. Remember to have a piece of paper and a pen or pencil to jot down any answers or working out. Please remember to pause the video when you need to do calculations and give yourself plenty of time. Also remember that the answers are always given by the person who is presenting the videos. Remember to also show any of your working out. Today I have uploaded the White Rose worksheets and answers to accompany each learning video.  If you are confident, I have also uploaded some Maths Mastery perimeter worksheets with answers

2.  English

1. Please use this session to finish your best copy (levelled up version) of your ‘Life in the Workhouse’.  Make sure that it is beautifully presented and that you have ticked off the checklist.    Please can you also include an illustration – this could be a picture of the workhouse from the outside.  Berlie Doherty in Chapter 4 describes the outside in some detail.  The BBC Bitesize videos show film footage of a real workhouse too.

2.  Continue with your new ‘Talk for Writing’ Booklet.  ‘Wonderful Wizards’ by Maria Richards.  Today I would like you to complete the Wizard comprehension on page 9.

AFTERNOON

3.  Reading

Please remember to read independently for 40 minutes!  For your 30 minute Guided Reading Session I would like you to start the reading comprehension questions for Chapters 8 and 9 of ‘Street Child’.  Please stop when you get to the additional questions section.  You will need to reread passages of the text to find your answers.

4.  Science

Today in class we are going to conduct an experiment to test the conductivity of materials.  We will make a circuit using a light bulb, 3 wires, 6 crocodile clips, a switch and a battery.  We will put into the circuit firstly a paper clip, then it will be taken out and cardboard will be put in, then cotton wool, then foil, then wood and finally plastic. If the material is a conductor the light bulb will light up and if it doesn’t then the material is an insulator.  I would like you to make a prediction about the results by answering these questions:

Conductors and Insulators

  1. Which materials do you think will conduct the electricity (allow electricity to pass through it) and make the bulb light up?
  2. What other kind of material will conduct electricity?
  3. Which materials will not conduct electricity (not allow electricity through it) and not make the bulb light up?
  4. What other kind of material will not conduct electricity?
  5. Why are insulators important?  Why do we need them?

Tomorrow I will tell you our results so you can write up your explanation.
