Term 3 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3, week 5:

Term 3 Week 5 – overview

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on words with the ch spelling, sounded as ‘sh’ such as chef and brochure.  We will also be revisiting adverbials of time, place, manner and frequency to enrich our writing.

Our guided reading text Lob is proving very popular.  This week, we will see what becomes of this mysterious garden helper now that Lucy’s grandfather has died, and Granny Annie has moved out of Clunny Cottage.  Each week we answer comprehension questions on what we have read and also try to embrace new vocabulary.

We have begun finding out about the stages of the water cycle.  This week, we will be identifying the key elements of an information text including language and layout, which differ from narrative writing. This will link to our new science unit on states of matter.

In Maths, we will work on our second multiplication and division unit.  This week will involve multiplying numbers by 100, dividing by 10 and dividing by 100.  On Thursday we dedicate time to working on our personal times tables targets.  Regular, short burst practise at home will really support this.  Each week, pupils are progressing towards their personal targets which is very encouraging.

In RE we will be learning about the distinctiveness of the 4 accounts of the Gospel written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

We will continue our science unit on States of Matter.  We will be investigating melting as a change of state.  We will carry out an experiment into the melting of ice, considering temperature and time.

In geography, we will be learning about countries of the world as a next step to learning about the continents.

PE is on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.  This term we focus on gymnastics and fitness.

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
