Term 2, week 1

Term 2, week 1
This week in Maple Class:
On Wednesday morning, we will be visiting the Amelia Scott centre to investigate artifacts linked to our topic work about the Stone Age. We will be back in time for lunch, but please send your child in with suitable footwear and a coat. It would also be useful if they had a small bag to carry their water bottles in.
English
This week we will continue our unit based on the book Stone Age Boy, by Satoshi Kitamura. The children will be completing their drama activities and then using their research to further prepare for a debate.
Whole Class Reading
We will be reading Leon and the Place Between. The children will work independently, in groups and as a whole class, to look at the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences about the text.
Maths
This week, we will continue the second unit, Addition and Subtraction. We will be adding and subtracting 10s and 100s, and spotting patterns.
Time and Place
We will continue the Stone Age to Iron Age topic, this week investigating the Amesbury Archer and thinking about what grave goods tell us about people’s lives during that time.
Science
Continuing our unit on Rocks and Soils with Mrs Banner.
Computing
This week we will continue learning how to use keyboards efficiently.
RE
Continuing the People of God unit, we will investigate modern covenants and how Christians live their lives today.
Art
We will continue our collage portraits.
PE
This week we are starting the hockey unit. Please make sure to send your child in with a PE kit and water bottle.
Reading Records and Homework
Reading records need to be in school on a Monday and Thursday. If your child wants to change their book on another day, we will do our best to accommodate this. Homework books will be sent out on Tuesdays and need to be returned the following Monday. I have shown the children how to locate the reading element on Purple Mash, as there seems to be an issue with the link. However, if you have any questions about this, or any part of the homework, please email the class email address.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
