Week 2, term 1

The children are settling in well to their new routines and working hard!

English

We will continue to read ‘Something Else’ by Kathryn Cave this week and writing our own stories based on the text.  We have investigated alternative ideas and characters, and had a closer look at the themes in the book.

Whole Class Reading

This week we will be reading an extract from The BFG by Roald Dahl. The children will work independently, in groups and as a whole class, to look at the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences about the text.

Maths

We are continuing the Place Value unit, using a number line, revisiting hundreds and representing numbers one thousand.

Time and Place

This week we will continue the Stone Age to Iron Age topic, by investigating number lines both in relation to previous learning, and our new topic.

Science

Last week, we began the Rocks and Soils unit, investigating different rocks. We will build on this again this week.

Computing

We will continue investigating networks and how computers are connected.

RE

This term, we are considering what it means to follow God in the Christian community. We will build on the story of Noah and how this relates to the idea of a covenant.

PE

Over the next few weeks, we will introduce some of the fundamental skills needed for all sports and physical exercise, in a fun and engaging way. Please make sure to send your child in with a PE kit, hat and water bottle.

Reading Records and Homework

Reading records came home last week and need to be back in school on a Monday and Thursday. If your child wants to change their book on another day, we will do our best to accommodate this. Please note, reading levels are likely to change as we move into year 3, but if you feel your child’s book is either too hard or too easy, please contact us. Homework books will be sent out on Tuesdays and need to be returned the following Monday.
