Week 1, term 1

Week 1, term 1
This week we will continue getting used to our new routines and learning all about year 3!
English
We will continue to read ‘Something Else’ by Kathryn Cave this week, and we will be writing our own stories based on the text. This is a simple story, about a small creature who does his best to join in with the others. But he's different. No matter how he tries, he just doesn't belong. Then Something turns up and wants to be friends. But Something Else isn't sure he's like him at all...
Whole Class Reading
Our Whole Class Reading for this week, uses the lyrics from a song! We will read and discuss the lyrics from the song ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from the film Moana, looking at the vocabulary and making inferences. I am sure there will be some singing too!
Maths
We are starting the Place Value unit, revisiting year 2 content and working on representing and partitioning numbers to 100 and using a number line.
Time and Place
This week we will begin the Stone Age to Iron Age topic, starting with what we already know and discovering (and creating) cave art.
Science
Last week, we began the Rocks and Soils unit, investigating different rocks. We will build on this again this week.
Computing
We will begin investigating networks and how computers are connected.
RE
This term, we are considering what it means to follow God in the Christian community. We will begin considering the story of Noah and how this relates to the idea of a covenant.
PE
Over the next few weeks, we will introduce some of the fundamental skills needed for all sports and physical exercise, in a fun and engaging way. Please make sure to send your child in with a PE kit, hat and water bottle.
From next week there will be a blog post and homework details posted, but if you have any questions, at any point in the year, please do email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
