Term 1, week 4

I was very impressed with the children last week, as they worked so hard on the various baseline assessments. This week we are back to normal!
English: this week, we will be starting a new unit, using the book ‘Stone Age Boy’, by Satoshi Kitamura. We will use the text to ask and answer questions about a text, use a thesaurus and introduce adverbials of time and place.
Whole Class Reading: this week we will be using a non-fiction factsheet about broken bones. The children will discuss the vocabulary and answer comprehension questions, both as a group, in pairs and independently.
Maths: the main focus will continue to be Place Value. We will look at flexible partitioning and number lines to 1,000.
Science: we will continue identifying and grouping rocks.
Computing: we will be learning about computer networking.
Time and Place: continuing with our Stone Age project, this week we will be investigating the innovations of that time.
Art: this week, we will be continuing the still life unit.
RE: this term, we are investigating People of God and what it means to follow God.
PE is on a Wednesday and Friday this term, and we will be starting the hockey unit. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
Homework will be issued on Tuesday as usual, and is due back next Monday. Please try to read with the children and encourage them to put their reading records and homework books in the basket in the classroom.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office.
Kind regards
