  • Year 3 Summer Challenge- Summer Fun!

    To keep you busy over the Summer Holidays, we have set you these challenges.

     

    • Challenge 1: Go for a long ride on your scoter or bike.
    • Challenge 2: Create a mini-garden.  
    • Challenge 3: Bake bread.
    • Challenge 4: Design a treasure hunt.
    • Challenge 5: Organise and prepare a picnic.
    • Challenge 6: Make a bug hotel. 
    • Challenge 7: Make a magic potion out of flowers, leaves and seeds.
    • Challenge 8: Make a present for someone you care about.  
    • Challenge 9: Make a picture using thumb and finger prints.  
    • Challenge 10: Play hop-scotch.
    • Challenge 11: Play ‘Simon Says’.
    • Challenge 12: Make an obstacle course.
    • Challenge 13: Have an egg and spoon or sack race.
    • Challenge 14: Play balloon tennis.
    • Challenge 15: Wear a blindfold and use your other senses to do a taste test and work out what you are eating.
    • Challenge 16: Put on a show using homemade puppets.
    • Challenge 17: Have a Lego building competition.  
    • Challenge 18: Make your own jewellery using beads or pasta.  
    • Challenge 19: Make your own secret code them write a message  
    • Challenge 20: Go to the seaside. Build a sandcastle with a moat.

  • Year 3 Summer Challenge- Reading

    Sign up for this year’s Tunbridge Wells Library Summer Reading Challenge.  

     

     

    Children can join at any currently open library in the district (Cranbrook, Showfields and Southborough) or online at:

    Also, your teachers have set you 10 St Barnabas Reading Challenges to complete over the Summer Holidays.

     

    • Challenge 1: Retell it

    Pick a story that you know really well. Learn the main parts of the story so that you are able to retell it in your own words.

    • Challenge 2: Change a Character

    Pick a story that you know really well. Change one of the characters to turn it in to a new story.

    • Challenge 3: Change the Ending

    Pick a story that you know really well. Change the ending to turn it in to a new story.

    • Challenge 4: Get Creative

    Get inspired by a book you have read. Create a drawing, sculpture or piece of artwork inspired by your book. 

    • Challenge 5: Compare It

    Find a well-loved story that has recently been turned into a T.V. programme. The Gruffalo, Zog, The Snail and the Whale, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt or The Tiger that Came to Tea. Read the book and watch the T.V episode. How were they similar? How were they different? Which did you prefer? Why?  

    • Challenge 6: Write to a Character  

    Pick a favourite character form a familiar story. Write to them. You could write a formal letter, a note to pass under their door, an email or even a text/WhatsApp message. It is up to you. Imagine that they received you message. What do you think they would write back?

    • Challenge 7: Turn it into a Comic

    Pick a story that you know really well. Draw pictures and use speech bubbled and captions to turn it into a comic strip.

    • Challenge 8: Review It

    Write a book review of one of your favourite books. Who are the characters? What were the main events? What were the best parts? Who would enjoy this book and why? What rating would you give it?

    • Challenge 9: Take it Outside

    Pick a book that you love. Pick a setting from the book and take it to a real life location to read. For example, take Why the Whales Came and read it on the beach.

    • Challenge 10: Make a Book Nook

    Make a special place in your house to read. Make it a cosy and snug space place to read on your own or with an adult.
