    Outline of the learning for week beginning 24th January.

     

    Welcome to the last week in January, hasn’t time flow by! We have had so much fun with Maple Class, they have been a delight to teach, full of energy and great ideas. Mrs Smallcombe will be back next Monday and I know she has missed all the children.

     

    What are we learning this week…

    English – We will be drafting our reports on David Attenborough. The children have had lots of fun researching him and finding out different facts. They have planned what they want to include in each section and so this week they will be starting to write and edit them.

    We will also be performing our rhyming poems to each other.

    Maths – We will be looking at the times tables – 5, 10 and 3. The children will be looking at how to tackle different types of problems.

    We will also be looking at how to subtract amounts and give change.

    Topic – We are going to be exploring hills and mountains in the UK and different activities they can be used for.

    Here is a range of activities that supplement the homework set each week.  This is an optional set of activities that you can select from or use if you need to self-isolate.  You can also find it at the back of your home learning book.

    If you complete any, we would love to see them. You can upload to the Maple email address or, especially for any art activities, bring them into class.

  • Term 3, Week 2

    Outline of the learning for week beginning 17th January.

     

    We have an exciting week ahead. On Wednesday and Thursday we are having another visit from ‘The Drama Geezers’. As a whole school we will be exploring The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai. We will be looking at Japanese folk tales and exploring art in the same style.

    We will also continue with are topic already started,

    English we will be researching David Attenborough and deciding what sections we want to explore more to create our own double page spreads.

    Maths we will continue with multiplication and division by exploring dividing numbers by sharing and how to make equal groups. We will then move on to look at how to multiply and divide by 2.

  • Term 3, week 2

    Outline of the learning for week beginning 10th January.

    Welcome to our first full week of term 3. This week is a busy week, we will be assessing where the children are in English, Maths and Reading to help us plan the learning for the rest of the term.

    We will also be starting a new Maths topic on Multiplication and Division. We will start by looking at how to recognise and make equal groups. This will involve looking at all the different ways we can represent a multiplication, for example an array, repeated addition and multiplication calculations. For the classes money topic they will move onto finding given amounts by solving problems involving pounds and pence.

    For our English learning over the next few weeks we are going to focus on Non- chronological reports, finishing with producing our own. This week we will look at the features that should be present and make a success criteria for what we think we should include in our own reports. We will also start investigation David Attenborough as our Briton of significance. To continue the poetry topic Mrs Tompsett will move on to looking at rhyming words.

    Our topic work this term will have a geography focus. We will be looking at The United Kingdom. This week we will focus on major cities/ seas and rivers.

    Science will be discussing variables and how to make a fair test before moving on to look at making a hypothesis.

    Happy New Year and welcome back to term 3. We hope that you have had a lovely break and are ready for the term ahead.  Things will be slightly different for the next 4 weeks, 

    Mondays/ Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings will be Mrs Atkinson 

    Wednesday afternoon will be Mrs Johnson 

    Thursday and Friday will be Mrs Tompsett. 

    We are planning on continuing with the same timetable and format with how the class has been run so far but if you have any questions or worries then please do email us on maple@st-barnabas.kent.sc.uk or catch us at the end of the day.
