Wow! What fantastic pancakes Hayden.
What a deliscious Friday Challenge!
Sorry- we are having some major technical issues at school this morning. At the moment, the internet is down and we have had to cancel all live lessons for today. We are hoping to get things up and running for tomorrow and will let you know as soon as the problem is fixed.
This morning, we will be introducing a new writing genre- instructions.
Activity: Our first piece of writing will be one of the following titles:
How to Make Mr Mackinnon Angry
How to Make Mrs Banner Angry
How to Make Mrs Johnson Angry
Your job is to come up with 5 instructions that you would give to a fellow class mate if you wanted to make these people very angry.
When you have completed your 5 instruction sentences, please send them in to us so we can share them with the rest of the class.
Hopefully, we will have a live lesson tomorrow so we can revisit these sentences and learn a little bit about imperative (bossy verbs).
Remember to read at home for at least 20 minutes today. Also, have a go at the ‘Tale of Two Feathers’ reading comprehension activity. If you need help reading the text, read it with a grown–up and then try to answer the questions on your own (remember you can pick the 1,2 or 3 Star Challenge).
Today, we have two problem solving activities for you to complete to help you remember about our learning on money;
Activity 1: How many different ways can you pay for the 75p bottle of water?
Activity 2: How many different ways can you pay for the £36 video game?
Try you best to work in a systematic way. For example, try starting using the coins/notes with the largest value.
Please send in your completed work so we can give you some feedback.
Before half term, we explored how to use the bridging through 10 techniques to add single digit numbers for which we did not know the number bonds. e.g. 8 + 6
If you are still getting to grips with the bridging through 10 technique, keep on working at it before moving on to today’s activity. You can watch a learning video on bridging through 10 here:
This week, we are going to learn how to use and apply this technique to solve even trickier problems. Please start by watching Mr M’s learning video.
Now use this technique to solve the attached arithmetic problems.
In this lesson, we will develop our gymnastics vocabulary by learning some intermediate balances and think about how using body tension and control can make our balances look effective. We will understand what impact regular gymnastics can have on our body. Please note this lesson will require some physical exercise and additional equipment, beyond a pen, pencil or paper. Please see the equipment slide near the start of the lesson video and make sure your child is adequately supervised when equipment is required. Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring that children follow the correct safety advice provided at the start of this lesson and the instructions the teacher gives during the lesson. Parents and carers are responsible for supervising activities where required and for seeking medical advice in advance if your child has a medical condition that may prevent them taking part in physical activity.

This week, we are going to start a brand new topic called, ‘A Knights Quest’. In this topic, we will explore the facts and fiction that surrounds Knights and Castles. We will use both primary and secondary sources of information to explore medieval knights and castles and focus particular attention on the Norman invasion of England and the struggle for the crown. We will also read stories about Knights and Castles and use these to inspire our own quest narrative. We will design our own kingdom, inhabit it with heroes and villains and plan a quest for our brave Knight to complete. We will use this quest as inspiration to complete pieces of instruction, description and narrative writing.
In English this week, we are going to start to learn about instruction writing. We will learn the basic requirements of an instruction text and then use them to create our own piece of instruction writing. We will also complete a range of reading activities including a live story time where we will read an information text about Knights and Castles.
In Maths, we will refresh our understanding of money and then explore how we can use previously learned addition techniques to add values of money efficiently. In number fluency, we will continue to expand our repertoire of mental addition techniques.
We will also complete a range of Science, P.E, R.E, Art and Design activities in line with our normal time-table.
On Friday things will be a little different. We will not post any new English or Maths activities. Instead we will give you some time to catch up with activities that you missed out on during the week. We will set a create task and some Friday Challenges to keep you busy and give you a chance to work away from the screen. Remember, if you complete any of the Friday challenges, send them in to us so we can show them off during celebration assembly. Who knows, you might even win a Friday Challenge certificate!

Next week is Shrove Tuesday. Therefore, this challenge is all about Pancakes! Today we are presenting you with a selection of Pancake related challenges to choose from.
Lemon and sugar is a traditional topping to put on your pancakes. Can you design something a little more adventurous and personal to you.
Can you create a labelled diagram of what your pancakes will look like?
Can you create a set of instructions to make your pancakes?
Find a recipe. Measure out the ingredients. With the help of an adult cook your own Pancakes.
Flipping Pancakes is an important part of the pancake cooking process. Today we are challenging you to investigate the following question:
‘What material is best for flipping?’
Here is what you need to do:
-Ask to borrow a frying pan from your kitchen.
-Pick a material (cardboard for example).
-Cut out a pancake sized circle from your material.
-Test how easy it is to flip. How will you measure this? Perhaps you might like to see how many successful flips you can do with it in 30 seconds.
-Record your results.
-Repeat your investigation with a range of different materials.
When you have finished your investigation, email us and tell us what you found out.
We love all the different materials you have used.

Eva found this article:
I can't believe the Thames has frozen over. Eva wonders if the ice would be string enough to host a Frost Fair?
What do you think?
Charlie, we really enjoyed reading this fabulous diary from the point of view of Samuel Pepys visiting a Frost Fair.

Congratulations to our wonderful stars of the week:
Hayden
Oscar
Aiyana
Phoebe
We loved all of your diaries from the point of view of Samuel Pepys visiting a Frost Fair.
Oscar discovered that these coins were magnetic.
Have you discovered any magnetic coins?
What about coins which are not magnetic?
Angelina, we love the Great Fire houses you designed.

Here is what Phoebe said about this book:
“I agree with Eva, I liked reading Hide and cheat especially when they played micro-hide and seek and all went small”.
