In English this week, we are going to continue and complete our pieces of writing in which we used compound and complex action sentences to explain the events of a part of the Quest story. We will also introduce the '1666- Fire and Ice topic'. We will place the year 1666 into chronological context and consider the question- What was it like to live in London in 1666? We will use information texts and artefacts to help us make historical discoveries and we will use mind-maps to help use record our thinking.
In Maths, we are going to spend some time reviewing the Place Value learning that we have completed so far this term. We will also extend our understanding to include place value grids, unmarked number-lines and more complex part-whole models.
In P.E. we will continue to develop our gymnastics and football skills. In Science and Computing, we will explore how Information Technology can be used in the school and wider world.
We will also complete R.E. and Design and the Arts lessons.

In English this week we are going to focus on using conjunctions to create compound and complex sentences. We will take some of the simple sentences that we created last week and consider how the and/but/so/because conjunctions can be used to add additional clauses in order to add detail to these sentences. Next, we will use these skills to write short paragraphs detailing the events of parts of the ‘Quest’ narrative.
In Maths, we are going to focus on using and applying our understanding of place value to solve problems involving the <> and = symbols. Next, we are going to use our understanding to solve a series of reasoning problems.
In Science and Computing, we are going to explore the role that Information Technology plays at school and indeed in the wider world.
In R.E. we will continue to focus on Creation and in P.E. we will continue to develop our Gymnastics and Football skills.
In Design and the Arts, we will continue to work with clay to create sculptural forms.

This week we have two spelling/phonics activities to complete:
1) Use the attached sheet to practise reading and spelling the Phase 3 Tricky words. You can then test yourself using the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check approach.
2) Use the attached sheet to revise and practise your Phase 3 Sounds. Use these sounds to come up with some potential names for Mr M's pet alien.
For example, I could use the sounds 'v' 'igh' and 'zz' to make the alien name Vighzz. Please email in your favourite alien names using the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
In English this week we are focusing on creating sentences to describe the actions of characters from Aaron Becker’s Quest. First, we are going to generate actors and actions and create simple sentences. Next, we are going to explore how we can use adverbial phrases to add detail to these sentences.
In Maths, we are going to continue to expand our understanding of place value. We are going to explore how partitioning can be used in different ways and how we can use addition and subtraction calculations to record our thinking. Finally, we are going to think about how we can use the < > and = symbols to compare 1 and 2-digit numbers.
In Science and Computing we are going to by exploring and using the main parts of a computer. In P.E. we are going to develop our football and gymnastic skills. We will also complete R.E and Design and the Arts lessons as well.
We are also hosting a ‘Meet the Teacher’ event on Wednesday 22nd September at 3:05pm. We would love to see as many families as possible on Wednesday so we can meet properly and talk about what learning will look like in beech Class this year.
