    Term 2 Week 2

This week for your home learning, we would like you to read the script for this year's nativity. We have attached a full version to this post.

We are also sending a paper copy of the script home on Wednesday. We have highlighted the lines that you need to learn in pink.

Please use this week to learn your lines.

Although the actual performances are not until December. We are going to pre-record some of the lines ahead of time. Our first audio-recording session is scheduled for Thursday 18th November. So please get learning your lines straight away!

There will be more information with regards to dates, tickets and costumes closer to Christmas.

However, for the moment, we would really appreciate it if you could support this event by getting your child ready to confidently and fluently perform their lines.

If you would like some additional Home Learning sent home for your child this week, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. We will do our very best to accommodate your needs.

    Many thanks,

    The Beech Team.

    Term 1 Week 2

In English this week, we are going to add interest and detail to the basic diary entries that we created last week. First, we are going to explore how adverbial phrases can be used to open sentences. Next, we will explore how we can show and tell the audience how Samuel Pepys might have been feeling on the night the Great Fire of London started. Finally, we are going to think about the next section of Pepys’ diary- when he steps out of his front door.

In Maths, we are going to continue to focus on addition and subtraction. We will explore how the techniques we have already learned this term can be used to efficiently solve addition problems. Next, we will focus on using and applying our understanding of Place value to add two 2-digit numbers. We will focus on using base-ten manipulatives to support us with these calculations.

In P.E. we will focus on developing the key throwing, catching and movement skills required to be successful when taking part in sports. In ICT, we will continue to explore the role that Information Technology plays in the wider world and explore ways to stay safe while using it.

We will also complete R.E and Design and the Arts lessons as well.

    Term 2 Week 1

In English this week, we will be placing ourselves into the shoes of Samuel Pepys and creating diary entries recounting the events of the Great Fire of London from his point of view. We will start by creating simple action sentences that retell the events. Then we will explore how a range of different adverbial phrases can be used to add detail to these basic sentences.

In Maths, we are going to focus on subtraction problems. We will explore how taking away and partitioning can be used to solve subtraction problems that cross a 10s barrier. We will then use and apply these skills to solve a range of problems in context.

In Time and Place, we will use the ‘Street Through Time’ resource to compare a modern street to a street from 1666. We will also focus on analysing primary sources of information to make historical discoveries about life in London in 1666.

We will also complete PE, RE, and Design and the Arts lessons as well.

If you would like to find out more about any of the activities that we will be working on this week, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

    Term 1 Week 7

Before we move on to working on more complex addition and subtraction calculations, it is essential that we are all fluent at recalling our number bonds to 10.

Start by watching this learning video:

Aut2.5.4 - Know your bonds on Vimeo

Now see how fluent you are at using your number bonds by completing the attached worksheet.

(We will stick this sheet into your Home Learning books that come home on Wednesday)

We have also attached the answers so you can check your own work.

If you found this super easy and would like a more complex addition or subtraction challenge this week, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address and request something a little more tricky.

    Term 1 Week 7

In English this week, we are going to focus on writing pieces of first-person, descriptive writing. We will be putting ourselves into the position of a boy called Toby, who we have read about in the book Toby and The Great Fire of London. We have already gathered ideas as to what Toby might see, smell, hear and feel on the first night of the fire. We have also already collected adjectives to describe these ideas. Now we are going to use Thesauruses to expand our range of descriptive vocabulary. We are also going to use a range of different prepositional and verb phrases in order to create descriptive sentences. Finally, we are going to consider how we might use interesting ways of showing and telling our audience how the character is feeling.

In Maths, we are focusing on expanding our addition and subtraction skills. We will practise our counting skills and then use them to help us count over 10s barriers to solve tricky calculations. We will also explore how we can use our knowledge of number bonds to solve these calculations with greater efficiency.

In Science and Computing we are exploring the role that IT plays in school and the wider world. We are going to use our computing skills to create a representation of a 17th Century house which demonstrates our historical understanding.

We will also complete P.E., R.E. and  Design and the Arts lessons this week.

If you would like to know more about these activities or need any help or advice with your home learning, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
