    Term 1 Week 7

Before we move on to working on more complex addition and subtraction calculations, it is essential that we are all fluent at recalling our number bonds to 10.

Start by watching this learning video:

Aut2.5.4 - Know your bonds on Vimeo

Now see how fluent you are at using your number bonds by completing the attached worksheet.

(We will stick this sheet into your Home Learning books that come home on Wednesday)

We have also attached the answers so you can check your own work.

If you found this super easy and would like a more complex addition or subtraction challenge this week, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address and request something a little more tricky.

    Term 1 Week 7

In English this week, we are going to focus on writing pieces of first-person, descriptive writing. We will be putting ourselves into the position of a boy called Toby, who we have read about in the book Toby and The Great Fire of London. We have already gathered ideas as to what Toby might see, smell, hear and feel on the first night of the fire. We have also already collected adjectives to describe these ideas. Now we are going to use Thesauruses to expand our range of descriptive vocabulary. We are also going to use a range of different prepositional and verb phrases in order to create descriptive sentences. Finally, we are going to consider how we might use interesting ways of showing and telling our audience how the character is feeling.

In Maths, we are focusing on expanding our addition and subtraction skills. We will practise our counting skills and then use them to help us count over 10s barriers to solve tricky calculations. We will also explore how we can use our knowledge of number bonds to solve these calculations with greater efficiency.

In Science and Computing we are exploring the role that IT plays in school and the wider world. We are going to use our computing skills to create a representation of a 17th Century house which demonstrates our historical understanding.

We will also complete P.E., R.E. and  Design and the Arts lessons this week.

If you would like to know more about these activities or need any help or advice with your home learning, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

    Term 1 Week 5

In English this week, we are going to continue and complete our pieces of writing in which we used compound and complex action sentences to explain the events of a part of the Quest story. We will also introduce the '1666- Fire and Ice topic'. We will place the year 1666 into chronological context and consider the question- What was it like to live in London in 1666? We will use information texts and artefacts to help us make historical discoveries and we will use mind-maps to help use record our thinking.

In Maths, we are going to spend some time reviewing the Place Value learning that we have completed so far this term. We will also extend our understanding to include place value grids, unmarked number-lines and more complex part-whole models.

In P.E. we will continue to develop our gymnastics and football skills. In Science and Computing, we will explore how Information Technology can be used in the school and wider world.

We will also complete R.E. and Design and the Arts lessons.

    Term 1 Week 4

In English this week we are going to focus on using conjunctions to create compound and complex sentences. We will take some of the simple sentences that we created last week and consider how the and/but/so/because conjunctions can be used to add additional clauses in order to add detail to these sentences. Next, we will use these skills to write short paragraphs detailing the events of parts of the ‘Quest’ narrative.

In Maths, we are going to focus on using and applying our understanding of place value to solve problems involving the <> and = symbols. Next, we are going to use our understanding to solve a series of reasoning problems.

In Science and Computing, we are going to explore the role that Information Technology plays at school and indeed in the wider world.

In R.E. we will continue to focus on Creation and in P.E. we will continue to develop our Gymnastics and Football skills.

In Design and the Arts, we will continue to work with clay to create sculptural forms.

If you have any questions or would like more information about any of the activities that we have detailed in this post, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
