    Term 5 Week 2

In English this week we have been focusing on using all of the narrative writing skills we have learned so far to retell chapter 2 of our class quest. We focused on using adverbial phrases and conjunctions to create compound and complex action sentences. We also focused on including sentences that told the audience what our main character could see and how they were feeling.

In Maths, we revisited some and extended some of our mathematical learning from earlier in the year. We focused on solving problems involving place value, scales and empty box calculations.

In Science and Computing, we analysed some information that we collected last week about the height of plants. We then used our scientific understanding of what plants need to be healthy to interpret and explain this data.

We have also completed Number Fluency, Spelling, Guided Reading, PHSCE, PE, RE and Design and the Arts activities this week. If you would like to know ore about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us via the class email address.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the families who took time out of your busy schedules to meet for your child's parent consultation this week.

    Term 5 Week 1

I have attached a list of some of the tricky words that we have been focusing on over this term. The words at the start of the list are those that we have given out in previous week's spelling home learning.

Step 1: Read the list and make sure you can fluently read these words. Remember, they are tricky words so we don't want to be using our phonics skills to read them.

Step 2: Underline any words which you struggled to read. Write them on flashcards and put them up in your room. Try and read them every time you see them.

Step 3: Take the first 10 words on the list.

    door

    floor

    poor

    because

    find

    kind

    mind

    behind

    child

    children

How many of these can you spell accurately? Get a member of your family to test you.

Step 4: Make a list of the words which you struggled to spell. Practise spelling them regularly using the Read, Say, Cover, Write, Check technique.

Step 5: When you are ready, move on to the next 10 spellings.

EXTENSION: If you are looking for an extra challenge, can you use 1, 2 or even 3 of these words in a fully punctuated sentence?

    Term 5 Week 1

Science and Computing this week we have been learning about green plants and using measurement as a tool to see how well plants are growing.

For your Maths homework, we want you to practise your measuring skills. Start by watching this learning video:

Sum2.1.4 - Measure Length (cm) on Vimeo

Then have a go at the attached worksheet. We have also attached the answers so that you can check your own work.

    Term 5 Week 1

In English this week, we are going to improve the pieces of narrative writing that we created before the Easter holidays. We are going to use adverbial phrases to vary the way we open sentences. We are also going to create sentences which give further information about what Sir Fred can see and how he feels.

In Maths, we are going to continue to focus on fractions. First, we will learn about the difference between unit and non-fractions. Next, we will learn to find unit and non-unit fractions of amounts. Finally, we will explore the equivalence of a half and two quarters.

In Science and Computing, we are going to turn our attention towards green plants. We are going to focus on what green plants need to remain healthy. Then we are going to use measurement as a tool to record how well a plant is growing.

We are also going to complete Spelling, Handwriting, Number Fluency, PE, RE, PHSCE and Design and the Arts activities as well.

If you would like to know more about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact us directly using the class email address.

    Term 4 Week 6

Over the holidays, we would like you to focus on retelling a part of our class quest. All the details for this activity are included in the attached document.

If you produce something in writing or digitally, please share it with us, so we can show it to the rest of the class!

    Term 4 Week 6

In English this week, we have been retelling the first chapter from our class quest. We focused on creating simple grammatically correct sentences which included a subject and a verb. Next, we explore how a range of different conjunctions could be used to create compound and complex sentences.

In Maths, we turned our attention to Fractions. We focused on identifying halves, thirds and quarters in shapes, amounts and measures. We then practised making halves, thirds and quarters.

In Science and Computing, we focused on scales. We identified that when we analysed data, many types of chart included a scale. Therefore, we practised reading a range of different scales before putting this practise to good use by interpreting block diagrams. Finally, we compared block diagrams with bar charts, pie charts and line graphs so see which charts were easier to interpret for our range of data.

We also completed Spelling, Handwriting, Guided Reading, Number Fluency, PE, RE, PHSCE and Design and the Arts lessons. As always, if you would like to know more about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via the class email address.

    Term 4 Week 5

In English the week, we are going to create one final character description. We will pick a character from our quest and use and apply all of the descriptive techniques we have learned this term to describe them.

In Maths, we will continue to focus on money. This week we will explore how finding the difference can be used find out how much more or less someone has. We will also use this technique to calculate change. Finally, we will use these skills to solve 1 and 2-step problems.

In Science and Computing, we will focus on using computer software to create block diagrams in order to present data.

We will also complete Spelling, Guided Reading, Number Fluency, PE, PHSCE, RE and Design and the Arts activities as well.

If you have any questions or queries about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact us directly using the class email address.
