    Term 1 Week 2

This week we would like you to practise reading and spelling the Level 3 Tricky words.

We have attached a game to help you practise reading them.

Play with a partner and take it in turns. Roll a dice and pick a word to read from that row. Once the word has been successfully read, you can tick it off. Continue playing until all the words have been successfully read.

EXTRA CHALLENGE: If you are looking for an additional challenge, can you cover the word and spell it accurately once it has been read out loud?

    Term 1 Week 2

In English this week we are spending time assessing pupils' reading skills and revisiting the phonics learning that pupils completed in Year 1. We are also going to reflect on our experiences over the summer holidays and write a recount of an interesting event.

In Maths, we are going to explore the concepts of 'more than' and 'fewer than'. We are going to use words, stem sentences and symbols to express our thinking. We are also going to turn out attention towards partitioning 2-digit numbers. We will explore how place value grids and manipulatives can be used to support our understanding. We will also explore how we can use words to record all numbers upton 100.

In Science and Computing, we are going to explore different examples of Information Technology and consider how IT is used within our school.

In Time and Place, we are going to spend time using timelines and historical artefacts to place the year 1666 into chronological context.

We will also complete Guided Reading, Religious Education, Physical Education and Design and the Arts activities as well.

If you have any questions about any of these activities or would like support with any issue relating to your child's learning, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via the class email address:

    Term 6 Week 5

In English this week, we will start planning our letters to our Vietnamese pen-pals. We will analyse a modelled text and identify its key features. Next, we will plan out the information we want to tell them about ourselves and the questions we want to ask them.

As part of our 'At Home and Aboard' topic, we will also be visiting the Amelia Centre. As well as touring the galleries and completing a scavenger hunt, we will also be completing object handling, sketching and designing activities.

Pupils will also have a chance to spend time in the fantastic new children's library. As part of the trip, pupils will be given the opportunity to receive their very own library card which would allow them to borrow books on future visits. If your child already has a library card, or if you do not want your child to receive a library card, please let us know via the school office.

We will also complete Spelling, Guided Reading, Number Fluency, RE, PHSCE and Design and the Arts activities as well.

If you would like any more information about these activities, please contact us via the class email address.

    Term 6 Week 2

In English this week, we will be writing a recount of our trip to the park. We will use all the different techniques we focused on last week (the colour coded ones in the home learning books) to help create interesting and engaging pieces of writing.

In Maths, we will be focusing on subtraction. First, we will make sure we have really mastered the expanded vertical method. Next we will explore how other techniques such as reduction and finding the difference can be used to solve some subtraction calculations effectively. We will come up with some generalised rules and post the on the maths working wall.

We will also complete Number Fluency, Spelling , Guided Reading, PHSCE, PE and Art and Design activities.

If you want to know more about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

    Term 6 Week 1

In English this week, we are focusing on recount writing. We wil start the week by analysing a piece of recount writing that Mr M wrote about a holiday that he once went on. We will use a colour coded success criteria to work out exactly why it was such an effective piece of recount writing. We will then set about planning a recount of our class trip to the park.

In Maths, we will focus on subtraction. We will pick out a particularly tricky type of subtraction calculations and then work on strategies for solving such problems.

In Time and Place we are going on a school trip to Grosvenor and Hilbert park. We are going to explore the plants and animals in our surrounding habitats with a particular focus on adaptation.

We look forward to as many families as possible visiting the garden and celebrating its opening on Friday!

    Term 5 Week 5

This week, pupils are completing their Reading and Arithmetic SATs papers. We aim to make these as stress-free as possible by working in small groups with no time pressure. If you have any questions or concerns about SATs, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via the class email address.

As well as our SATs, we will also begin our local habitat study. We will start by using online mapping tools to explore the area surrounding our school. Next, we will make our maps of the area. We will design and add a key to our maps to provide additional detail. Next, we will explore plants and animals in our local habitat and focus on how they have adapted to suit their environment. We will finish the week with Design and the Arts activities focusing on capturing the beauty and bio-diversity of local surroundings.

In Computing lessons, we will learn about Rhythm, Pitch and Tempo and use our understanding to make music using computer software.

We will also complete Reading, PE and PHSCE activities this week.

    Term 5 Week 4

I have attached a list of some of the tricky words that we have been focusing on over this term.

Step 1: Read the list and make sure you can fluently read these words. Remember, they are tricky words so we don't want to be using our phonics skills to read them.

Step 2: Underline any words which you struggled to read. Write them on flashcards and put them up in your room. Try and read them every time you see them.

Step 3: Take the first 10 words on the list.

    door

    floor

    poor

    because

    find

    kind

    mind

    behind

    child

    children

How many of these can you spell accurately? Get a member of your family to test you.

Step 4: Make a list of the words which you struggled to spell. Practise spelling them regularly using the Read, Say, Cover, Write, Check technique.

Step 5: When you are ready, move on to the next 10 spellings.

EXTENSION: If you are looking for an extra challenge, can you use 1, 2 or even 3 of these words in a fully punctuated sentence?
