    Term 1 Week 6

This week in English, we are going to explore how we can develop the basic action sentences that we created last week and turn them into a diary entry. First, we are going to generate adverbial phrases which can be added on to the start of our basic action sentences. Next, we will consider how we can show and tell the audience how Samuel Peps would have been feeling on the night that the Great Fire of London started.

In Maths, we will compete activities designed to practise counting 2s, 5s and 10s. We will also complete reasoning activities designed to help us make generalised rules which can be used to support us counting in these multiples. Finally, we will turn our attention to Addition and Subtraction. We will focus on number bonds to 10 and will adopt a systematic strategy for finding all the different pairs of addends that can be added together to make 10.

In Time and Place, we will explore the materials that were used to build houses in 1666.

In Science and Computing, we will continue to sort materials according to their material properties using Venn Diagrams. We will also consider the benefits of using IT in school and in the wider world.

We will also complete Phonics, Guided Reading, Handwriting, Mastering Number, PE, RE and Design and the Arts activities.

If you need any further information about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact us directly using the beech class email address.

    Term 1 Week 5

In English this week, we will be focussing on creating first person action sentences. We will learn more about Samuel Pepys and his diary and write from his perspective. We will imagine what it was like to wake up on the night of 2nd September 1666 to the sights and sounds of The Great Fire of London. Once our simple first person action sentences are complete, we will explore how adverbial phrases could be used to enhance our sentences.

In Maths, we are focusing on comparing objects and numbers using the < > and = symbols. We will also explore how such concepts can be used to order objects and numbers. Finally, we will turn our attention to counting in multiples of 2,5 and 10.

In Science and Computing, we will use IT to demonstrate our understanding from the Time and Place Curriculum. We will also begin to explore materials and use simple Venn Diagrams to sort objects according to their material properties.

We will also complete Phonics, Guided Reading, Mastering Number, PE, RE and Design and the Arts activities as well.

If you would like further information on any of these activities, please contact us via the class email address:

    Term 1 Week 4

In English this week, we are focusing on descriptive writing. We are putting ourselves into the shoes of a character from a book we have read in class called Toby and The Great Fire of London.  First we will explore how sets of carefully selected adjectives can be used to create descriptive sentences. Next, we will explore how prepositional phrases can be used to add detail to our sentences. Finally, we will explore how we can show and tell the audience how the character is feeling in order to add interest to our descriptions.

In Maths this week, we are going to focus on identifying the numbers 0-100 on number-lines. We will begin with multiples of 10 and then move on to multiples of 1. Finally, we will explore how we can use our understanding of the number system to estimate points on unnumbered number-lines.

In Science and Computing we will be exploring how IT can be used in the school and wider world.

We will also complete Maths Mastery, Phonics, Guided Reading, PE, RE and Design and the Arts activities as well.

If you have any questions about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact using the Beech Class email address.
