    Term 3 Week 4

In English this week we are going to use our Time and Place skills to select the Human and Physical things that will be on the island we are creating. We will also read a selection of books which involve quests such as Journey and Quest by Aaron Becker, Jack’s fantastic Voyage by Michael Foreman and The Lonely Beast by Chris Judge. We will then combine these ideas with the ideas we have gained from reading traditional and non-traditional books about Knights and Castles to plan our own quest narrative.

In Phonics, we will learn the tricky words 'break' and 'steak' as well as focusing on words which use 'le' to make the 'l' sound. Our grammar focus for the week will be to use commas in lists.

In Guided Reading, we will focus on The Paper Bag Princess with a specific focus on questions relating to Inference, Sequencing and Explanation.

In Maths, we are going to focus on learning the 2 times table and calculating with money. We wil focus on using our conceptual understanding of groups of 2s to establish the 2x tables that we already know. We will then develop strategies for working out the ones which we don't know. When calculating with money, we will focus on strategies to make £1 and then use the finding the difference strategy to solve problems which involve giving change.

In Time and Place, as well as focusing on the Human and Physical aspects of our islands, we will also continue to explore the concepts of invasion and settlement to help prepare pupils to learn about the Norman Invasion od 1066.

We will also complete RE, Design and the Arts and PE activities as well.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact us directly via the Beech class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

In English this week, we are going to focus on a new genre of writing- Instructions. We are going to start by reading The Twits by Roald Dahl. We are going to think about the nasty tricks that Mr and Mrs Twit play on each other and consider some nasty tricks we could play on our teachers. Finally, we will use and apply this understanding to solve x2 multiplication problems. We will also begin to learn about money. We will make sure we understand the value of each coin and note and learn techniques for finding total amounts of money.

In Mastering Number we will focus on using doubles and near doubles to efficiently solve addition and subtraction problems.

In Time and Place we are going to start our Knights and Castles Enquiry by exploring the concepts of Invasion and Settlement.
