    Term 1 Week 5

In English this week, we will be focussing on using prepositional phrases to add detail to our descriptive sentences. We will also be exploring how we can use show and tell sentences to let our audience know how a character is feeling.

In Guided Reading we are continuing to focus on The Tin Forest with a focus on retrieval, inference and vocabulary questions.

In Maths, we will complete some quick 'readiness' assessments to make sure we are all ready to move on to the next unit of study focussing on addition and subtraction. For those who are not quite ready, we will complete activities designed to revisit and cement the Yr1 curriculum. We will also complete our learning about Place Value by comparing numbers and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In Science and Computing, we will revisit the advantages and disadvantages of using Information Technology before gaining first-hand experience of how a computer system is used in a shop.

We will also complete Mastering Number, Phonics, Design and the Arts and PE sessions as well. If you have any questions about any of these activities, please contact us via the class email.

    Term 1 Week 4

In English and Communication, we are going to focus on creating sentences which describe the sights, sounds and smells of the Great Fire of London. We will use adjectives to create expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases to open our sentences.

In Guided Reading we will continue to read and explore The Tin Forest.

In Phonics, we will continue to revisit the sounds we learnt in Level 5 with a focus on the ir, ue, ue, y, aw, au, ow, oe and wh sounds. If you want to practise your level 5 sounds, please use the document attached to this post.

In Science and Computing, we are looking at the benefits of using Information Technology. In order to explore this concept, we will complete the same designing task twice- once with IT and once without it. We will then compare and contrast the outcomes.

We will also complete PE, RE, Mastering Number and Design and the Arts activities. If you have any questions about these tasks or any other matter relating to learning in Beech Class, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

    Term 1 Week 3

This week in English and Communication we have read the book 'Toby and the Great Fire of London'. We stopped at the point in the story where Toby looked out upon the city and realised it was on fire. We then set about collecting noun phrases and adjectives that we can use to create sentences which describe the fire.

In Guided Reading we started reading The Tin Forest. In Phonics we began to revisit level 5 sounds. If you would like to practise your Level 5 sounds please see the document attached to this post.

In Maths, we have continued to focus on Place Value. We wrote numbers in their expanded forms and learnt how to use 10s and 1s on number lines.

In Science and Computing we focussed on the applications of Information Technology in school. We then used Information Technology to learn more about the Great Fire of London.

We will also complete Mastering Number, PE, and RE sessions as well.

If you have any questions relating to these activities or any other matter relying to the learning in Beech Class, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address.
