Term 1 Week 1

Each week we will post a weekly learning update on the Year 1 Blog. This will keep you updated on your child’s main learning activities for the upcoming week. Here is an overview of our learning activities for the week commencing 8th September 2025.

This week we will be continuing to settle into the routines of Year 1. Most mornings, the children will take part in activities linked to our Phonics, English and Maths learning. In the afternoons, the children will take part in learning activities for other areas of the curriculum (including RE, Computing, Art and Science), as well as some play-based activities.

In Phonics, we will be continuing to revisit some of the phonemes that were taught in Acorn Class to consolidate the children’s knowledge.

In English, we will be writing simple sentences including verbs (doing words).

In Maths this week, we will be counting objects from a larger group, representing numbers using different resources and learning to write correctly orientated numbers.

Our topic focus for the start of this term is the book ‘Martha Maps It Out’ by Leigh Hodgkinson. This is a picture book about a girl called Martha who explains her place in the world using maps.

In RE, we will be talking about the parable of the Lost/Prodigal Son.

In Science, we will be talking about everyday materials and starting to find objects made from paper, plastic, wood and metal in the classroom.

This term Willow Class will have PE on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Our focus will be on invasion games and developing our ball skills.  Please make sure that your child has their full PE kit in school on Tuesday and Thursday.
