We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Reception!

Phonics

In Phonics, we have been practising forming our Level 2 and Level 3 sounds correctly and writing them on our whiteboards. We have also learnt three new Level 4 tricky words: do, little, and out. As a class, we worked together to create sentences based on pictures before the children had a go at writing their own sentences using our new tricky words.

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about take away and solving subtraction number sentences. We have also been recapping our knowledge of 2D shapes, exploring how to select the most suitable shape for a purpose, rotate shapes, and compose and decompose shapes to make new ones.

Writing

We have continued to develop our sentence writing skills this week. The children created their own "I can see..." sentences inspired by a picture of a farmyard, using their phonics knowledge and remembering to include finger spaces, capital letters, and full stops.

Helicopter stories

Our Helicopter Stories sessions have been another highlight of the week. The children loved acting out the stories they had created together. As we went around the circle, each child chose whether they wanted to be a character, place, or object from the story, bringing their imaginative ideas to life.

PE

Due to the warm weather, we have continued enjoying Yoga during our PE sessions, helping us stay active while keeping cool. After lunch, instead of our usual Wake and Shake, we have been taking part in a range of mindfulness activities on the carpet to help us relax, regulate our emotions, and stay comfortable in the heat.

Reading books

Finally, as we come to the end of the term, we kindly ask that any library books and phonics reading books be returned as soon as possible so that we can get everything ready for the summer break. Thank you so much for your support!

Star of the week: Congratulations to Noah and Bryan, who are our stars of the week. Noah is our star of the week for having been so helpful and kind to his peers and the adults in the classroom this week and Bryan is another of our stars of the week for progressing so well with writing his name this year. Noah and Bryan will be taking home their certificates this week. 

Please remember to put the library and reading book in your children's book bag to be returned. If you have not brought in either book yet, please do so by no later than Monday 13th. Please can you remember to put these in your children's book bag. If they have not been returned, this will be followed up. If the books are damaged or lost, please make one of the Acorn team or the office aware.
