Home learning for 05/12/25

If you haven't managed to complete any home learning so far, please read the previous blog posts and complete those activities. If you have, here is the home learning for Friday 5th December 2025! If you have any questions or need help, please contact us using the class email: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. Please take photos of any completed work and send in via email or in bookbags when we return to school.
Phonics
Watch the video below and revisit the level 2 sounds and actions again. You can stop after 'h' for house, or continue having a look at future sounds we will be learning.

Todays focus: Recapping the sounds r and h
1. Review the Sounds: Say each sound and do the action-
-
r – “rrrrrr” like a growling dog
-
h – “h…h…” like you are panting after running
2. Sound Hunt (Oral Blending)
Say these words in sounds and ask your child to blend them to say the word:
-
r–u–n → run
-
h–e–n → hen
-
r–e–d → red
-
h–a–t → hat
If your child needs help, repeat slowly and sweep your hand across as you blend the sounds. If they are still struggling say the sounds and the word and get them to repeat them.
3. Segment the Words (Robot Talk)
Now say the whole word and your child has to break it into sounds:
-
rug → r–u–g
-
hop → h–o–p
-
rat → r–a–t
-
hug → h–u–g
4. Writing Challenge
Ask your child to write:
-
the sound r three times
-
the sound h three times
-
then have a go at writing one simple word:
Choose one: run, hat, hen, red
They can write this on a whiteboard or paper.
Maths
Watch the video below and then complete the worksheet attached:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DRpGSzPOmE
If you do not have a printer, write the answers on paper or a whiteboard and take a picture.
Writing
Please spend some time practising name writing.
If your child finds this tricky:
-
Write their name clearly yourself.
-
Let your child trace over your writing using their finger or a pencil.
-
Then let them have a go writing it underneath, using your example to help.
-
Repeat this a couple of times to build confidence and muscle memory.
Reading
Please remember to take time to read with your child today
Please also allow time for free play. Children learn so much through building, drawing, pretend play, creating, role play and outdoor exploring.
