Home learning for 03/12/25

If you haven't managed to complete any home learning so far, please read the previous blog posts and complete those activities. If you have, here is the home learning for Wednesday 3rd December 2025! If you have any questions or need help, please contact us using the class email: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. Please take photos of any completed work and send in via email or in bookbags when we return to school.

Phonics

Watch the video below and revisit the level 2 sounds and actions again. You can stop after 'r' for robot, or continue having a look at future sounds we will be learning.

Today our new sound is 'h', we would like you to practice saying the 'h' sound (a soft breath, no 'huh') using the action. You could play a quick game of I spy something beginning with 'h'...

Challenge: try sounding out some words containing the 'h' sound: had, him, hot, hop, hum, hug

Maths

1. Begin with this counting song (10 green bottles) and show each number using your fingers or sing 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive again:

2. Show your child the numerals below, ask them to point to the number, say the number and show the number on their fingers.

The Power of 1-2-3-4-5

3. Equal actions game: say 'can you show me an equal number of claps?'

For example, an adult would clap 3 times; your child must clap an equal number of times (3).

Repeat this with different actions (parent/carer completes the action and the child copies):

- jumps

-stomps

-pats on the head

- taps on the knees

Drawing Club

Today in drawing club, please begin by recapping yesterday’s story (The First Christmas) again:
Encourage your child to retell the story in their own words before reading it again.
If they have forgotten parts, you can re-read it together using the link below:

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SNcZIL10Os

  1. Vocabulary focus:
Talk about the meanings of two of our special words:

    • Shepherd – someone who looks after sheep.

    • Wise – very clever/smart

  2. Today’s drawing task: Ask your child to draw a gift that they would give to baby Jesus if they visited him. This could be anything that they believe would be magical, wonderful, or precious to them. It can be real, imaginary, or something very special to them. Examples include:
  • a baby blanket
  • a teddy
  • a golden crown
  • a special book
  1. Writing challenge:
See if they can write the initial sound of what they have drawn, for example:

  • blanket → b
  • teddy bear → t
  • crown → c

Please encourage colouring by using coloured pencils, not coloured pens if possible.

Reading

Please remember to take time to read with your child today

Please also allow time for free play. Children learn so much through building, drawing, pretend play, creating, role play and outdoor exploring.

Anything created or made, please email a picture to: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
