Wednesday 13th January

Here is today's home learning.

Reading- While learning from home, you should be aiming for at least 20 minutes reading per day. This can be any type of text – fiction book, non-fiction, comic, newspaper, etc.

You can also visit the Oxford Owl website. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/  and access books online. The login details are:  Username: willow101        Password: pupil

Once you are logged in, you can go into the Oxford Owl e-book library and select a book of the appropriate level to read. You can do this by going to the tab which says levels and scroll down until you come to book bands. If you are not sure which level your child is reading at please email us and we will let you know.

A reading comprehension sheet has been included with this blog for you to complete if you wish.

Phonics- Today we are learning about the ‘ue’ sound. In some words it sounds like 'oo' as in glue and blue. In other words it sounds like 'yoo' as in rescue and statue. Below are some videos to watch going through some ‘ue’ sound words.

Mr Thorne ‘ue’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtbWNyyctzU

Geraldine ‘ue’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCeE3B_tAq8

Now try some of these activities: Can you find any things in your house with an ‘ue’ sound in? Talk about the ‘ue’ sound. Can you say the sound?  Can you write the sound? You could use chalks, glitter, make it out of playdoh, write it in flour, use magnetic letters. Can you write some words with the sound in? Hide the word around the house. Can you find it?  Can you read these words that have the sound in them:  clue, blue, issue, true, glue, Sue. Can you write a sentence using some ‘ue’ words and including a capital letter and full stop? Can you find the ‘ue’ words on the sheet attached to this blog?

English- Our story this week is about Bob the bubble. In the story Bob is different colours, “sometimes blue, sometimes yellow, sometimes pink, but always beautiful”. Today we are going to be thinking about how to describe different colours.

Look at the colour poem attached to this blog. What is your favourite colour? What do different colours make you think of? Today we would like you to write your own colour poem. You could use the same format as the colour poem on the blog or a sentence about each colour of your choice.

Maths- Today we will be learning to subtract not crossing 10. Watch the White Rose Maths video: https://vimeo.com/492197096 and then try completing the worksheet attached to this blog.

Can you also practising writing the numbers 0 to 20 making sure all the numbers are correctly orientated. Start by counting up in ones from zero. Then try counting back in ones from 20.

Challenge: can you count up to 20 in 2s?

Science- This week we are learning about different animal groups. Start by looking at the Powerpoint attached to this blog or watch the videos about animal groups. Here is the link:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv

There are 6 main animals groups: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish and Invertebrates. Look at the animal sheet attached to this blog and sort the animals into the right groups. An answer sheet has been included for if you get stuck.

You could also do some research on your favourite animal to find out which animal group it belong to.
