Tuesday 12th January

Here is today's home learning...

Reading- While learning from home, you should be aiming for at least 20 minutes reading per day. This can be any type of text – fiction book, non-fiction, comic, newspaper, etc. A reading comprehension on ‘Ted’s Birthday’ has been included with this blog for you to complete if you wish.

Don’t forget to join the class story time at 11:30am today. You have been sent a link via Parentpay. There have been some teething problems with assemblies and meetings so please bear with us. We will arrange another story time later in the week if things go wrong tomorrow as we are keen for everyone to be able to take part.

Phonics- Today we are learning about the ‘ir’ sound in words like girl, first and bird. Below are some videos to watch going through some ‘ir’ sound words.

Mr Thorne ‘ir’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_09njG46O0

Geraldine the Giraffe ‘ir’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ta_KKUU-98

Can you find any things in your house with an ‘ir’ sound in? Talk about the ‘ir’ sound.  Can you say the sound?  Can you write the sound? Can you write some words with these sounds in?

Now try matching the words and pictures on the worksheet attached to this blog. You could either print the worksheet and cut out the pictures or you could write the words on some paper and draw your own pictures.

Maths- Today we will be learning to add by making 10. Watch the White Rose Maths video: https://vimeo.com/492195871 and then try completing the worksheet attached to this blog.

It would also be good to practise number bonds for 10. Log on to Purple Mash and complete the number bonds for 10 ‘2Do’ or practise your number bonds for 10 using a ten frame and things you have at home.

English- We will be continuing to follow the story of Bob, the bubble who wanted to be useful. Today we would like you to complete a story path and write some sentences about what happens in the story.

Read or listen to the story again: https://soundcloud.com/talkforwriting/bob/s-r4f63gDrqYb.

Look at the story path for Bob’s adventure. Can you write a sentence about each part of the story? There is a sentence worksheet which might give you some ideas about what to write.

Art- This week we are learning about Antony Gormley and his artwork. A Powerpoint is attached to this blog which gives you some information about him. Antony Gormley is one of the best-known sculptors in Britain today. He designed the ‘Angel of the North’.  It is probably Gormley’s most famous piece. Look at the different materials he uses and how his work varies. What do you like about his sculptures? Which is your favourite?

You have a choice of activities:

  1. Antony Gormley produced lots of clay people and displayed them together. Can you create your own clay people using salt dough, clay or playdough? There is information on how to make some clay figures attached to this blog.
  1. Pretend to be a statue like one of Anthony Gormley’s figures. What pose would you choose? Ask your family to pick a pose too. Draw a picture of your ideas.
