This Week's Learning

Term 1: Week 7

In English this week, we are going to edit and improve the simple action sentences that we created last week. First, we are going to carefully select adverbs to open our sentences. Next, we are going to use the and/but/so/because conjunctions to add additional clauses to our sentences which give more detail. Finally, we are going to explore how we can add descriptive sentences and ‘show not tell’ sentences to interest our audience. When we have completed our writing, we will add some examples to the blog.

In Maths this week, we are going to begin an addition and subtraction unit of work. First, we are going to revisit the number bonds for the numbers up to 10 and then 20. Next, we are going to explore the ‘fact families’ for the numbers for the numbers up to 20. We are going to explore how we can use our knowledge of part-whole models and inverse operations to work out related calculations.

If you would like to learn more about these concepts then please take the time to watch this learning video:

In ICT, we are going to revisit how to use collision detection to manipulate objects when coding. We are also going to introduce the repeat and timer commands. Each of the following PurpleMash activities have been set as 2Dos so you can practise these skills at home if you wish.

-Princess and the Frog’

-‘Tick Tock Clock’

-Magician

In Art we are going to use our understanding of mixed media composition to create Christmas Cards (Sorry- we know this is far too early!) This activity has been organised by the PTFA to help raise funds. So please listen out for details for how you can purchase these cards and help raise much needed funds for the PTFA.

As always, if you want to know more about anything we are learning about in Beech Class, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address.
