This Week's Learning

Term 1 Week 5

In English this week, we are going to finish of our first person descriptions of the castle in Aaron Becker’s Journey. We are going to add a ‘show not tell’ sentence and an exclamation sentence to finish our pieces of description. We will post some completed pieces of writing on the blog to show you what we have achieved. Next, we are going to turn our attention to the part of the story where the girl rescues the purple bird. We are going to focus on writing simple action sentences and then enhancing them with adverbs. We are also going to explore how the and/so/but/because conjunctions can be used to add additional clauses.

In Maths we are going to complete our work on part-whole models and empty box calculations. Next, we are going to focus on comparing objects and numbers. We are going to revisit the > < and = symbols and make sure we really understand them. Finally, we are going to use these symbols combined with our understanding of 1 and 2-digit numbers to compare values.

If you would like to learn more about comparing objects, please take the time to watch this video.

In ICT, we are going to continue to developing our coding skills. We are going to explore how to create our own characters and backgrounds using design mode. We will use Free Code Chimp to do this. We have set Free Code Chimp as a 2Do on PurpleMash so you can practise at home.

In Art, we are creating pieces of mixed media composition. We created pencil sketches of the castle in Aaron Becker’s Journey. We then enlarged them and added paper collage to add texture. Next we used water colour paints to add colour. This week we will use tissue paper to add a final layer of colour and texture. When our work is complete, we will add some photos to the blog so you can se what we have been up to.

As always, if you would like to know more about what we are going, submit completed pieces of home learning or have a query about any mater relating to your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
