Term 4 Week 1

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 20th February 2023

In our main Phonics lessons we will be learning to read and write words where ‘y’ makes an ‘ee’ sound (such as sunny, hairy and rainy). We will also be reading the words ’any’ and ‘eye’ and writing the words ‘where’ and ‘water’.

We will be using the book ‘Traction Man is Here’ by Mini Grey as a basis for our English Work over the next few weeks. This week the children will be listening to the story several times and starting to identify some of the key events to help us to construct a story map. We will also be thinking of adjectives to describe each setting for the story.

In Maths, we will be continuing to learn about subtraction. This week we will be subtracting by counting back, finding the difference between two numbers and crossing objects out. We will also be looking at finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number in our fluency work.

We are starting a new topic in RE and our key question of the term is "Why does Easter matter to Christians?" This week we will be talking about the words “Incarnation” and “Salvation” and how they relate to Jesus’ birth and death for Christians.

On Wednesday we will be going to the church in the morning for Ash Wednesday Mass, which marks the start of Lent.

As part of our Science work, we will be observing changes in the weather across the week and recording our findings on a weather chart. In Art, we will be mixing primary colours to create secondary colours.

Willow class will continue to have PE on Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, so please make sure that on these days your child has their PE kit in school and that earrings are removed where possible.

If you have any questions or need help with anything please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
