Term 5 Week 1

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 19th April 2021.

Welcome back to school! We hope that you had a restful Easter break and are ready for an exciting new term at school. We will be starting the week by going over some new classroom routines and talking about our class rules.

Our topic for this term is Explorers and this week we will be thinking about what we know about explorers, where explorers might go and what they might take with them on their journeys. Our first focus book of the term will be The Great Explorer by Chris Judge.

In Phonics this week we will be practising reading and writing tricky words (including go, to, me, my, they and are) and will be using some of those tricky words in our sentence writing in English. We will also be practising correct cursive letter formation for l, i, t, u and y. In English we will be revisiting what to include in a good sentence and will be learning to use commas in a list.

In Maths we will be practising counting in 2s and 5s and will be looking at the number patterns involved in this.

We are starting a new RE topic this term and will be exploring some stories from different faiths (Judaism, Islam and Hinduism). This week we will be learning about the story of Jonas and the Whale as part of our work on Judaism.

PE will continue to be on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Please make sure your child brings their PE kit into school on Wednesday to change into. PE kits will stay in school Wednesday night and be taken home on Thursday afternoon. As the weather is getting warmer, it would also be good if your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

If you have any questions or need help with anything please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk). Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.
